Attire: Most students wear leotards and skirts, any color, with ballet shoes for ballet and tap shoes for tap. Boys wear sweats or leggings and T-shirts. If you would like to attend the class first before purchasing the "gear" that is fine—in this case, students may wear socks for ballet and a hard-soled shoe (such as a Mary Jane) for tap, and any comfortable clothing is fine if one does not have a leotard. Suggested places to purchase the needed attire are: AllAboutDance.com, Target, Payless, Karabel Dance in Burbank, Capezio Dance in Hollywood. We also have a shoe recycling system in the studio. In other words, students put their outgrown shoes in the box and take out any shoes that might fit them for no charge at all.

Pre-School Dance - ages 2-4. This class is for ages 2-4 focuses on an introduction to Ballet and Tap Dance, and also incorporates some Jazz and Creative Movement. Pre-Schoolers get a chance to move to music, tell stories through Dance and Creative Movement, use props, and learn the basics of Tap and Ballet form, music, and steps. Though we work on routines and perform two recitals per year, the emphasis is on exposure to the spirit of dance and awakening each child's creativity and imagination through music and movement, rather than on executing steps perfectly. Developmentally, Pre-School is a great time to introduce children to the art of Dance, and as their muscles strengthen through movement, their minds and imaginations do too. Each class session begins with a Welcome Song, seated around the Magic Carpet. Then we do a Creative Movement Warmup, moving about the room and responding to different musical sounds. Next we move into a time of ballet technique, steps, and learning part of an ongoing routine. Still wearing ballet shoes or sometimes already in tap shoes, Aimee often leads a story-telling event using rhythm and chant. Finally, the children are asked to put on their tap shoes for a short tap technique lesson and final bows and curties using colored scarves.

Children's Dance - ages 5-8 This class is for ages 5-8 focuses on an introduction to Ballet and Tap Dance, and also incorporates some Jazz, Character, and Traditional Dance. Children get a chance to learn a basic Ballet Barre, be exposed to Ballet and Tap technique, use props, and learn both a Tap and a Ballet routine. Recitals are bi-annual, and the emphasis is on exposure to the spirit of dance, fun, exercise, flexibility, and awakening each child's creativity and imagination through music and movement, rather than on creating the perfect show. Developmentally, this is a great time to introduce children to the art of Dance, and as their muscles strengthen through movement, their minds and imaginations do too. Each class session begins with a Ballet Barre. Next we move into a time of stretching in the center of the floor, ballet foot and arm positions and poses, jumps in the center, turns and leaps across the floor, and ballet technique, steps, and learning part of an ongoing routine. Finally, the children are asked to put on their tap shoes for a short tap technique lesson and learning an ongoing taproutine. The class ends with final bows and curties using colored scarves.
